Santa in the Park

Our community association throws holiday events for children a few times a year, and today was Santa's visit. Delaney was in a good mood, so my daughter and I walked over to see if we could get a photo with Santa. We missed Santa's arrival - I heard the sirens blaring for a good 15 minutes, as Santa was delivered to the park on a fire truck. He definitely made an entrance, and next year we will get there early enough to see him arrive - especially now that we know the Santa Drill.

It was quite a mob scene - they passed out numbered tickets to see Santa, and the idea was that the child would get a number and go participate in the other activities, and come back when the guy with the bullhorn called their number. The guy was calling "40 to 45!" Delaney's number was 203. And Santa took his time with the kids, too - this wasn't just a photo op. Santa chatted and gave each child personal attention, and of course parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles were snapping photos. The line moved very, very slowly.

Delaney thought she was going for a walk, and wasn't sure why we were just standing around.

By the time numbers 60 to 65 were called, she was getting restless, and numbers 64 and 65 didn't respond to their summons. So we asked if we could line jump - it wasn't like D was going to be very chatty, we just wanted to see how she would handle her first encounter with Santa.

She liked him just fine, thank you. She studied him intently. Santa was very nice and took his time making sure Mommy got some really good photos. (I took this one from the side with my phone, but you get the idea.) She was calm and interested in everything, and dozed off on the walk back to my house. Delaney met Santa, and approved.

And what a gorgeous genuine looking Santa, real hair and whiskers, and obviously competent -- no way is little Miss going to make a sudden move and dive out of his arms.

Mind you, her attitude might be a tad different next year when she has worked out 'known' from 'stranger'. Wild horses could not have dragged me to the strange man in the strange outfit.

Miss D is a very lovely young lady, and very photogenic,

Merry Christmas from the supposedly summery shores of Callala Bay, whoever said 'global warming' can just go fetch my quilt for me

Wow! She has just grown up already! I can't believe this baby was born only in October. She's beautiful and she looks so much like Supergirl I.

Great photo

Yeah, we watched an adorable little boy about 18 months absolutely freak when mom handed him to that weird looking stranger - mine were always cool with Santa, but you never know! He was a fantastic Santa, and the line moved slowly because he gave each child his undivided attention, talked to them, etc. It wasn't just "sit on his lap and get a picture" and the kids were very patient about waiting their turn. It was nice that we were allowed to cut in, because no way would Delaney have stayed patient all afternoon!

She has grown like a weed, Bess - in 3 month clothes already - and yes, the family gene pool must be potent because she does look very much like her cousin, and both are ringers for their parents at this age!

Miss D girl is such a cutie! And I too, am struck by such an awesome Santa. It was nice they let her jump in. She really does look like her cousin.
